What is Mechanical Engineering?

What is Mechanical Engineering?

The mechanical engineer has been called the general practitioner and the jack-of-all trades among engineering professions. This is because he requires education and skills that span a broad range of technical, social, environmental, and economic problems. In general, however, the mechanical engineer is concerned with controlling the principles of motion, energy, and force through mechanical solutions.

A mechanical engineer designs the tools and processes used for satisfying the needs of society through a combination of material, human, and economic resources. She might work on electric generators, internal combustion engines, steam and gas turbines, and other power-generating machines. She might also develop machines such as refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, power tools, and other power-using machines.

What Do Mechanical Engineers Do?
The diverse mechanical engineering field can be divided in a variety of ways in terms of job functions. Some of the most common functions relate to these areas of technology, but not all do. Among these fields are:

Product Design — developing products ranging from biomedical devices to gasoline-powered engines. A mechanical engineer designs anything that uses mechanical motion.
Research and Development — discovering new solutions to human needs or improving older methods.
Manufacturing — developing the machines that process materials into products. Designing and building machines and systems of machines that improve operating efficiency is of prime importance.
Systems management — overseeing operations of a large system, such as a power plant, as well as supervising the people who work there.
Energy — planning how energy is generated, stored, and moved. Industries that produce and deliver electrical power, such as natural gas, oil and alternative energy, employ mechanical engineers to develop more fuel-efficient cars, motors, and appliances.
Marketing — determining the need for a new or modified product, and calculating product availability, market size, cost structure, profitability, specifications, and distribution channels.
In most of these fields, the mechanical engineer is concerned with heat utilization or machine design–in other words, harnessing or creating energy. Heat utilization techniques are applied in boilers, air conditioners, and refrigeration units. Machine design is more focused on hardware, including automobile engines, computers, and washing machines.
Mechanical engineers are constantly being asked to make decisions. The size, shape, and material of every part of every mechanical product created must be decided by a mechanical engineer. They also have to determine the best and most efficient ways to manufacture the products. Often those decisions are made in conjunction with other types of engineers. Some of the decisions they make can mean the difference between life and death: the safety features of automobiles, for example, are the responsibility of mechanical engineers.

LOSER IS A REAL GAINER

In our era losing something means getting lost in lots of screaming, tears, sympathy as well as empathy of others. But hardly anyone thinks that what he has gained & what he has lost. All the funda includes of the artificial calculations of the "big" peoples or the peoples who are considering themselves the the real rider of this universe. These people thinks that they are the real survival. But our fellow guys, they are convinced by them & are getting surrounded by the negative powers & getting let down.

Once I had read that A person with disabilities is a person having a multiple abilities, I know the sentence is totally meaningless, but once go through the each word, you will feel what the author of the book wants every body to let feel. Every person is a loser & every person is a gainer, depends upon how you think, I oppose you Mr. Anonymous because it is not us how we think, but it is the people/surrounding/environment enriching us, that reinforce us to think what they want or what is there. If you put tea leaves in the boiling milk than you can only make Tea not Coffee. Same theory applies here.

So somehow person & environment also matters.Losers are the real gainer. Changing the thinking, changing the Game.In all the matches it is not The Tendulkar who hits century each & every time. If century is hit than its good for him as well as for his fan but if he fails to do so or went on duck than it will be a best experience for him as he gets the best experience of his game & again he will not dare to do the same mistake.

Once a great philosopher Ricky Rudolf said "Fortune has fuck my Fate, Its not me whom should I hate, the thing is that I should wait and correct my fate, Let the bet and all will set" . Dear Mr. Rudolf Sorry to say that I am not satisfied by your comments on fate & fortune. Neither betting & nor waiting can set your fate. Its you who should have to work on to get the things.

"Either fuck or get ready to be get fucked" ........Line is abusive but to survive in this world of imaginations & Expectations It is the best thing to do.

Are MBAs Overpaid?
The growth of MBA professionals are far better as compared to engineering professionals, the reasons for which I will explain presently.  A report was taken from HEADLINES TODAY. The program was structured as a panel discussion, with a few intellectual heavyweights on the panel; The names are not disclosed. Several great insights were offered, but in surveyor’s humble opinion, an insight of a ground-breaking nature was offered by Prof X. His argument was as follows. ‘There are close to 200000 MBA aspirants in the market (in India i.e.). IIMS have a student intake of 1600; so it looks like IIMS have deliberately kept the supply low so that their grads land those nine lakh+ salaries. We don’t see any problem in increasing the intake significantly. The infrastructure is adequate and the professors can be trained’. Whoa, what an insight? This statement would have easily made the CP of the year in my B-school, wait, hang on, We must keep my overflowing admiration in check and offer our humble reactions.

Prof  Y, we are  sure with the amount of data you have at your fingertips, you also must be aware that fail/dropout rate in top business schools is around 5% and in exceptional circumstances has even touched 8-9%. Obviously, it wouldn’t be that hard to conclude that this rate would go up if the intake would increase. Now how do you suggest we handle that? No, we  know you are not suggesting that the standards need to be diluted, may be we should tweak the syllabus a little bit, let’s remove some of those finance courses that work only in the perfect world where there are no taxes, fees, information asymmetries and all those fancy jargon that don’t mean anything in the real world. Instead, let’s introduce some soft-courses such as ‘Breathing techniques to increase profits’ ‘How meditation can help increase shareholder wealth’, ‘Duryodhana’s views on corporate governance’ – where you have to try really hard to fail. Wow, pure genius, do it the Indian way, Loka-Samastha-Sukhinava -Bhavantu; let everybody pass. That is all-inclusiveness at its best. You were also mentioning that MBAs actually are worth only around Rs 30000/- per month; now isn’t that suspiciously close to salaries landed by students from your college. What the hell, that must have been only a coincidence.

Yes Prof. Z, you were mentioning that the ‘business of business is risk-taking, and MBAs are ill equipped to do that since MBA increases risk aversion’. Well, we  suppose it is futile to explain that to you that managers risk shareholder wealth, not their own and hence risk aversion is a legitimate position to adopt, and if you are a risk lover, maybe you should be sitting in a casino not in a boardroom. You were also mentioning that decisions should be taken from gut and not with those fancy models taught in B-schools. Well, we  would use excelled least and not just rely on our gut. Depending only on our guts would put us in the same bracket as a soothsayer or a crystal gazer; In which case you are better off firing us and hiring an astrologer. Believe us, it’s a lot cheaper.
